Summary data from LibEcon surveys for the financial year 2001
Data from the recent LibEcon survey covering the years 1997 to 2001 is included in the following summary. Based on returns at 31st July 2003 grossed up for National and Public Libraries and based on initial returns for Tertiary, School and Other Libraries grossed up using the trends for the previous 5 years. About the LibEcon project.
The LibEcon project uses internet communications to develop a continuously updated database of library activities and associated costs in the context of their national economies. LibEcon is a project funded by the European Commission DG Information Society www.cordis.lu/ist/ka3/digicult/home.html under the 5th Framework Programme for research. LibEcon works through a network of country coordinators to collect statistical data on libraries of all types in a standardised way using its own questionnaire which is based on the ISO 2789 standard International Library Statistics [2003] and ISO 11620 [Library Performance Indicators]. The data is validated, standardised for an international audience, rapidly published on the web, commentated to draw attention to key trends and publicised widely.
